These Balmainesque booties...are made for walking!!

So I went back to the sales. And, of course, I bought a couple of nice things...a silk blouse, and the Balmain wannabes in Zara. I saw them during the past months, liked them, but thought they weren't worth the prize...now I found them for 20 euros!!! 20!.
I now, the eternal question about cheap shoes is basically: should I spend money buying 5 cheap and usually uncomfortable and bad quality shoes or should I spend that money in buying just a pair of expensive hence good ones? The correct answer, for me, would be the second...but 20 euros is not even a rpice to doubt. What is the worst thing that would happen? It doesn't matter much, because that's just too cheap. They are labeled as "Special Edition"...I didn't know Zara had special editions. So I went home with them, part happy and part scared because I also thought they were going to be a torture for my poor feet.
Well, it turns out they weren't...I wore them for a full day out of home, and they are so comfortable, so nice to walk in, they are also pretty and the material they are made of is so soft. They have some serious heels, but that's not a problem at all. Isn't that great?
Now I love my cheap Balmain wannabes...not as good as the original ones, but my feet and I like them very much.

I love unexpected presents. And this was the perfect one...I've been thinking of buying Chloé Eau de Parfum for a while, and now my mum gave it to me as a present when I went for a few days visit.
It smells soooo good, it stays on my skin forever, and the bottle is so pretty and it's also so nice holding it, because of the relief that the glass has, apparently it's inspired by the pleats of some Chloé blouse.
Highly reccomended...I think it's my new favourite.

Sales time

I was hesitant about visiting shops on sales time. I hate sales...Ok, you can find really good stuff at a low price, but you also have to spend hours looking for those good pieces, because almost everything is not very nice, and the shops are quite messy and full of people with the same interest. Today I needed to stop studying for a while, so as far as it was early, I decided to take a look at a couple of stores.
As I thought, I didn't find much...But I couldn't resist to buy this vintage-ish purse. I love it, and I love that it's a handbag (I find them so elegant and cool). Thanks to Zara sales, I can be happy for just 20 euros.

A very British wishlist

As you know, British pounds and Euros are now equal...so now buying cute and pretty clothes from the other side of the Channel is now a chance that everybody from the continent should keep in mind...especially now, sales time!

I've been searching through the most important British websites for online shopping, Asos and Topshop, and found soooo many pretty and (now) very affordable things...

Project Runway...(really)

So I'm back, after a stressful month, full of stuff to do for Uni, a little depression and some health issues. Hope you are all fine! It's so good to see you again.

This has been my first totally free weekend, and among other things I have to confess that I watched the entire 5th season of Project Runway. I'm not a fan of "Reality TV" at all...but my best friend, who is quite a TV lover insisted that I had to watch it because there was a girl there whose design I was going to love. All right then...I watched Project Runway in two days. I was free but also dealing with a flu, so I had to stay at home.
I was quite surprised because the program is not as bad as I imagined. It's great that they focus on the work of the contestants and not on their personal life and the stuff they do when they are not designing. It was TV after all, a reality show, but it was ok. Also, I found a lot of creations that I didn't like AT ALL...but my friend was right. There was a unique jewel there, called Leanne Marshall. I totally loved her style, which is very unique. It was a surprise...and well, my friend didn't tell me who was the contestant I was going to love, but I knew it just from the beggining.
Of course, she won. And made a fabulous final collection that I loved. I would totally wear anything from it. And the beautiful colours, and the cute shapes, and all those waves and ruffles..

(Mary) Janes Addiction

I'm a shoe addict. But after many many pairs, I've realised that Mary Janes are probably my favourite type of shoe. No matter if they are flats, mid heels, or really high heels...no matter the colour. I'm addicted to Mary Janes!

So, when I went shopping on Saturday and saw these ridiculously pretty, comfortable and affordable black patent Mary Js I had to buy them. They are a basic that I'm gonna love wearing (although I already have other three pairs of black flat Mary Js, haha).

More good news

Remember when the legendary brand Rochas announced that they were not going to keep their clothing line? Olivier Theysken's last show was so sad, after a few years of spectacular creations by the Belgian artist for la maison Rochas.

But after not a long time, and despite the fact that, yes, there's a big crisis...Rochas is back in the fashion world!!!

Who said crisis??

Apparently, Procter and Gamble and some other company decided to invest again in Rochas for more prêt-à-porter collections.

I'm pretty happy about that, because it's always sad to say goodbye to a brand who has been there for years and years, especially a brand like Rochas, which I personally like, because it's always had a really feminine, ethereal and cute spirit.

But I also think that after having someone like Theyskens as head creator, the new designer will have to work really hard, because there's gonna be a big responsability here, and also many many comparison to the genious that Theyskens is...remember his dream collections for Rochas??

I still dream of this dress...it's one of my favourite dresses ever. Thanks, Olivier...

So, who is the new first designer for Rochas?

Apparently, it's gonna be Marco Zanini, who has worked for Versace for many years, and was the guy who revived Halston.
He is pretty good. But will he adapt his creativity to the soul of Rochas (I think so!) or will he do something completely new and different to avoid the comparisons??
Anyways...We'll see soon.

After a couple of years after she left Chloé to live, relax and take care of her baby, the fabulous Brit that I totally adore is back to be the creative director for the legendary French brand Celine.

I adore Phoebe Philo. Her creations for Chloé were just...a dream.

"Misty Dawn: Portrait of a muse", by Jock Sturges

Jock Sturges is an American photographer who has published some fab books and exhibitions and worked for important publications such as Vogue Japan and Italian Marie Claire. He has been photographing Misty Dawn for 25 of her 28 years of life. The photos are excellent, as usual with Sturges' work.
His case rememebers me to David Hamilton's. Both have been accused of pornography and of photgraphing nudity in young women. I'm not going no talk about the controversy around their work here. I'll just say that I can't see disrespect or anything like that anywhere here.. Maybe the ones who think that should look at the photos a little bit more and with a new vision without the influence of suspicion that sometimes turns into paranoia..Mr. Sturges is an artist, a fantastic photographer that is just doing his work, taking pictures from the world around him and doing some really great stuff like this collection, dedicated to his muse, where we can see the evolution that happens to most of women...from a sometimes insecure and fragile child to a confident and wonderful woman.

A few reasons why I love/hate American Vogue

After seeing the last cover of Vogue's American edition, I knew I had to write a little about this.
Apart from the fact that Anna Wintour is an icon that we may or may not like, I'm not going to write about her directly...just about the magazine, or I should say some of the last issues of it...I could keep going, because Vogue's history is quite long now, but I think this brief analysis of some of the facts that make me feel this love/hate thing about American Vogue are quite representative.

Ok...I HATE Vogue's last covers. That's it. I can't stand them. They don't make me want to buy the magazine. I don't even like them around in the house. I would cover them with a giant sticker or something.
What happened? They used to be quite good (although I prefer Paris Vogue or Vogue Italia's covers by far...).
Many people say that they don't like the fact that there are always actresses on them lately. I personally don't care that much...as long as they look good.
Because they don't. They don't look as beautiful and stylish as they usually are...why?? I can't understand it. It's a fashion magazine, with the best photographers, graphists, make up artists, hairdressers, and a bunch of other excellent professionals...And things like these have been happening a lot lately:

The last Vogue's cover, November 2008: Reese Witherspoon. I don't find her especially stylish or attractive, but I do think she has charm, and a sweet attitude that was totally ignored here. Instead of it, she looks older and has a strange expression in her face. ANd you can't say anything about her clothes. This is a fall issue...and I can't see "fall" anywhere here. It makes me think of Mediterranean summer or of the USA flag (a bit too obvious, the elections are in November, but I wouldn't have used those colours). Apart from that, the "other" major figure here is Olivier Theyskens, who appears with Reese in some of the photos in the editorial inside. Ok, well, I can't see Olivier's touch anywhere in that technicolor cover.


May 2008: Gwyneth Paltrow. What can I say about this infamous cover? It's unspeakable. Still a mistery for me. The bizarre position of her body. The horrible background. Colours that don't work well together. Her face looks creepy. The hair.
Well...and, of course...the helmet.


September 2008: Keira Knightley. The background, again. I don't think those red letters match at all with the whole thing...But the top doesn't match at all with the trousers and belt either...Again, her face looks strange, I don't know what is it, but it does (maybe the Photoshop retoucher hates Keira or something?). And...why didn't they comb her hair?? At this point, I'm not even asking for a nice hairstyle...but, please, at least comb her hair.

What do you think?

With this, I'm not saying that I hate American Vogue, of course...but I think covers are important, and they are just not working lately, apart from other things that are not working either...and I have to say that I know that advertising is basic here. But that September issue just had too many ads. It was ridiculous.

What I love about Mrs. Wintour's beloved magazine?

Many many many things...but from them, I should say that they have created some of the moest elegant, sofisticated and stylish editorials in fashion history.

I had to choose one, and although I remember some fabulous ones made by Annie Leibowitz (remember "Alice in Wonderland" editorial with Natalia Vodianova, back in 2003?), I'm choosing one from October 2008 issue...just to keep it to the last months too.
It was photographed by Patrick Demarchelier, and the editor was legendary and fabulous Grace Coddington. It was a hommage to Haute Couture, but not only for the dresses and designers...it was a hommage for all those who make, too, the crazy fashion dream of Haute Couture come true...of course, they are the tailors, dressmakers, all the couture tecnicians that work hours and hours for that...for dreams like these wonderful creations.

LFW Favs (II)...Lovuella

A bit late, but here's my post about my other London Favourite; of course I'm talking about Mrs. Luella Bartley, and her last fabulous collection for Spring/Summer 2009.
Luella's collection made me think of candy, tea parties and girlie dreams. It made me think a bit of Chanel, but a technicolor Chanel dreamed by a girl who likes flowers and cake.

The shoes where also beautiful, as the hair complements.

And there where stunning and pearl necklaces!!

I totally adored all the outfits.
