So I went back to the sales. And, of course, I bought a couple of nice things...a silk blouse, and the Balmain wannabes in Zara. I saw them during the past months, liked them, but thought they weren't worth the prize...now I found them for 20 euros!!! 20!.
I now, the eternal question about cheap shoes is basically: should I spend money buying 5 cheap and usually uncomfortable and bad quality shoes or should I spend that money in buying just a pair of expensive hence good ones? The correct answer, for me, would be the second...but 20 euros is not even a rpice to doubt. What is the worst thing that would happen? It doesn't matter much, because that's just too cheap. They are labeled as "Special Edition"...I didn't know Zara had special editions. So I went home with them, part happy and part scared because I also thought they were going to be a torture for my poor feet.
Well, it turns out they weren't...I wore them for a full day out of home, and they are so comfortable, so nice to walk in, they are also pretty and the material they are made of is so soft. They have some serious heels, but that's not a problem at all. Isn't that great?
Now I love my cheap Balmain wannabes...not as good as the original ones, but my feet and I like them very much.

I love unexpected presents. And this was the perfect one...I've been thinking of buying Chloé Eau de Parfum for a while, and now my mum gave it to me as a present when I went for a few days visit.
It smells soooo good, it stays on my skin forever, and the bottle is so pretty and it's also so nice holding it, because of the relief that the glass has, apparently it's inspired by the pleats of some Chloé blouse.
Highly reccomended...I think it's my new favourite.

I was hesitant about visiting shops on sales time. I hate sales...Ok, you can find really good stuff at a low price, but you also have to spend hours looking for those good pieces, because almost everything is not very nice, and the shops are quite messy and full of people with the same interest. Today I needed to stop studying for a while, so as far as it was early, I decided to take a look at a couple of stores.
As I thought, I didn't find much...But I couldn't resist to buy this vintage-ish purse. I love it, and I love that it's a handbag (I find them so elegant and cool). Thanks to Zara sales, I can be happy for just 20 euros.

As you know, British pounds and Euros are now equal...so now buying cute and pretty clothes from the other side of the Channel is now a chance that everybody from the continent should keep in mind...especially now, sales time!

Project Runway...(really)

So I'm back, after a stressful month, full of stuff to do for Uni, a little depression and some health issues. Hope you are all fine! It's so good to see you again.

This has been my first totally free weekend, and among other things I have to confess that I watched the entire 5th season of Project Runway. I'm not a fan of "Reality TV" at all...but my best friend, who is quite a TV lover insisted that I had to watch it because there was a girl there whose design I was going to love. All right then...I watched Project Runway in two days. I was free but also dealing with a flu, so I had to stay at home.
I was quite surprised because the program is not as bad as I imagined. It's great that they focus on the work of the contestants and not on their personal life and the stuff they do when they are not designing. It was TV after all, a reality show, but it was ok. Also, I found a lot of creations that I didn't like AT ALL...but my friend was right. There was a unique jewel there, called Leanne Marshall. I totally loved her style, which is very unique. It was a surprise...and well, my friend didn't tell me who was the contestant I was going to love, but I knew it just from the beggining.
Of course, she won. And made a fabulous final collection that I loved. I would totally wear anything from it. And the beautiful colours, and the cute shapes, and all those waves and ruffles..

I'm a shoe addict. But after many many pairs, I've realised that Mary Janes are probably my favourite type of shoe. No matter if they are flats, mid heels, or really high heels...no matter the colour. I'm addicted to Mary Janes!

So, when I went shopping on Saturday and saw these ridiculously pretty, comfortable and affordable black patent Mary Js I had to buy them. They are a basic that I'm gonna love wearing (although I already have other three pairs of black flat Mary Js, haha).

Remember when the legendary brand Rochas announced that they were not going to keep their clothing line? Olivier Theysken's last show was so sad, after a few years of spectacular creations by the Belgian artist for la maison Rochas.

But after not a long time, and despite the fact that, yes, there's a big crisis...Rochas is back in the fashion world!!!

Who said crisis??

Apparently, Procter and Gamble and some other company decided to invest again in Rochas for more prêt-à-porter collections.

I'm pretty happy about that, because it's always sad to say goodbye to a brand who has been there for years and years, especially a brand like Rochas, which I personally like, because it's always had a really feminine, ethereal and cute spirit.

But I also think that after having someone like Theyskens as head creator, the new designer will have to work really hard, because there's gonna be a big responsability here, and also many many comparison to the genious that Theyskens is...remember his dream collections for Rochas??

I still dream of this dress...it's one of my favourite dresses ever. Thanks, Olivier...

So, who is the new first designer for Rochas?

Apparently, it's gonna be Marco Zanini, who has worked for Versace for many years, and was the guy who revived Halston.
He is pretty good. But will he adapt his creativity to the soul of Rochas (I think so!) or will he do something completely new and different to avoid the comparisons??
Anyways...We'll see soon.

"Misty Dawn: Portrait of a muse", by Jock Sturges

Jock Sturges is an American photographer who has published some fab books and exhibitions and worked for important publications such as Vogue Japan and Italian Marie Claire. He has been photographing Misty Dawn for 25 of her 28 years of life. The photos are excellent, as usual with Sturges' work.
His case rememebers me to David Hamilton's. Both have been accused of pornography and of photgraphing nudity in young women. I'm not going no talk about the controversy around their work here. I'll just say that I can't see disrespect or anything like that anywhere here.. Maybe the ones who think that should look at the photos a little bit more and with a new vision without the influence of suspicion that sometimes turns into paranoia..Mr. Sturges is an artist, a fantastic photographer that is just doing his work, taking pictures from the world around him and doing some really great stuff like this collection, dedicated to his muse, where we can see the evolution that happens to most of women...from a sometimes insecure and fragile child to a confident and wonderful woman.

A few reasons why I love/hate American Vogue

After seeing the last cover of Vogue's American edition, I knew I had to write a little about this.
Apart from the fact that Anna Wintour is an icon that we may or may not like, I'm not going to write about her directly...just about the magazine, or I should say some of the last issues of it...I could keep going, because Vogue's history is quite long now, but I think this brief analysis of some of the facts that make me feel this love/hate thing about American Vogue are quite representative.

Ok...I HATE Vogue's last covers. That's it. I can't stand them. They don't make me want to buy the magazine. I don't even like them around in the house. I would cover them with a giant sticker or something.
What happened? They used to be quite good (although I prefer Paris Vogue or Vogue Italia's covers by far...).
Many people say that they don't like the fact that there are always actresses on them lately. I personally don't care that much...as long as they look good.
Because they don't. They don't look as beautiful and stylish as they usually are...why?? I can't understand it. It's a fashion magazine, with the best photographers, graphists, make up artists, hairdressers, and a bunch of other excellent professionals...And things like these have been happening a lot lately:

The last Vogue's cover, November 2008: Reese Witherspoon. I don't find her especially stylish or attractive, but I do think she has charm, and a sweet attitude that was totally ignored here. Instead of it, she looks older and has a strange expression in her face. ANd you can't say anything about her clothes. This is a fall issue...and I can't see "fall" anywhere here. It makes me think of Mediterranean summer or of the USA flag (a bit too obvious, the elections are in November, but I wouldn't have used those colours). Apart from that, the "other" major figure here is Olivier Theyskens, who appears with Reese in some of the photos in the editorial inside. Ok, well, I can't see Olivier's touch anywhere in that technicolor cover.

May 2008: Gwyneth Paltrow. What can I say about this infamous cover? It's unspeakable. Still a mistery for me. The bizarre position of her body. The horrible background. Colours that don't work well together. Her face looks creepy. The hair.
Well...and, of course...the helmet.

September 2008: Keira Knightley. The background, again. I don't think those red letters match at all with the whole thing...But the top doesn't match at all with the trousers and belt either...Again, her face looks strange, I don't know what is it, but it does (maybe the Photoshop retoucher hates Keira or something?). And...why didn't they comb her hair?? At this point, I'm not even asking for a nice hairstyle...but, please, at least comb her hair.

What do you think?

With this, I'm not saying that I hate American Vogue, of course...but I think covers are important, and they are just not working lately, apart from other things that are not working either...and I have to say that I know that advertising is basic here. But that September issue just had too many ads. It was ridiculous.

What I love about Mrs. Wintour's beloved magazine?

Many many many things...but from them, I should say that they have created some of the moest elegant, sofisticated and stylish editorials in fashion history.

I had to choose one, and although I remember some fabulous ones made by Annie Leibowitz (remember "Alice in Wonderland" editorial with Natalia Vodianova, back in 2003?), I'm choosing one from October 2008 issue...just to keep it to the last months too.
It was photographed by Patrick Demarchelier, and the editor was legendary and fabulous Grace Coddington. It was a hommage to Haute Couture, but not only for the dresses and designers...it was a hommage for all those who make, too, the crazy fashion dream of Haute Couture come true...of course, they are the tailors, dressmakers, all the couture tecnicians that work hours and hours for that...for dreams like these wonderful creations.

A bit late, but here's my post about my other London Favourite; of course I'm talking about Mrs. Luella Bartley, and her last fabulous collection for Spring/Summer 2009.
Luella's collection made me think of candy, tea parties and girlie dreams. It made me think a bit of Chanel, but a technicolor Chanel dreamed by a girl who likes flowers and cake.

The shoes where also beautiful, as the hair complements.

And there where stunning and pearl necklaces!!

So, now that it's over, it's time to think about all seen at London Fashion Week...isn't LFW wonderful? I love it, because it's always very surprising, less classic than the others, more experimental, always with a touch of punk, a touch of rock, a touch of new young designers with lots of ideas and powerful originality trying to have a name in that difficult world...the fashion world.
Talking about young designers, here are some images from Charles Anasatase's show, one of my favourites, no doubt!!
I totally adored his collection, it was a great mix of many many things I love...geeky glasses, absolutely faboulous stockings (worn under transparent skirts many times), cardigans, silk, high waists, delicate colours, delicate garments, flounces, disturbed innocence, Lolitesque malicious ways, candid dresses with biker jackets, and that "fairy tale" athmosphere he likes (he actually has a 2005 collection based on Alice in Wonderland)...
Mr. Anastase, the 29 year old French genious based in Paris, made me feel happy to be a girl and, as a girl, honoured with such a very girly collection, but realistic with what being a girl is. And jealous, because I can't have all those wonderful outfits he created.

This is my lovely and very red vintage skirt. I bought it weeks ago and I've been experimenting a bit with it. It's quite incredible, because it's got a perfect length, by the knee. And it looks great with flares and with heels, and can look quite casual but also a bit more fancy, depending on how you combine it. It looks great a bit "high waist" with a nice belt. And I tried wearing it as a strapless top with a nice patent bow belt and black skinny pants...it looked a bit Lanvin last season. I'm working on getting over my pathologycal shyness in order to take some pics of myself wearing it that way because it looks great...maybe soon. I promise I'll try (but I'm VERY shy).

Some of my London book purchases...

After searching for Banksy's graffitis, hoping to see at least one and not finding any...I decided to buy the book (which is great).
Brideshead Revisited...for the plane (and now I keep reading it). And the movie will be on the cinema soon, by the way.
One of the cutest, mostfantastic books I've ever seen/had..."This is for you" by Rob Ryan. I'll make more pics of it soon so you can see a bit more of it. It's so beautiful, and all the text and illustrations are cut out of paper! . How cool and incredible is that? I highly reccomend his blog and his website, both great ways to know Rob's world a little bit more.

La Maison, cute store located in a stylish appartment in the coolest area in Madrid. Handmade clothes, unique pieces, cool hair complements and many clutches.

Retro City, vintage store runned by the two nicest shop assitants in Madrid. Good prices, excellent location, some interesting accesories, many dresses...actually the place where I bought my dress.

Corachán y Delgado, the best vintage store in Madrid. Simply fabulous, Chanel, Dior, Givenchy, Balenciaga, many 20s items, so exclusive...But expensive (snif snif). The store is sooo beautiful, located in restored old wine shop.

Biscuit, the cutest store!! Full of girly dresses, handmade brooches, flower hair complements and the nicest pendants...everything is so unique here. Lovely lovely! (And they give you little cookies with dress shapes, isn't that cute?).

Pleated dress

I'm very happy. I've been searching for a pleated dress for a long time and I finally found the perfect one. I've looked in vintage stores, because pleated dresses are so vintage and I wanted one of those from the first half of the eighties or last seventies...just like some of the ones my mum used to have and never kept :(...I love to see all those old pics of her and her friends wearing those dresses.
But I never found the dress...until last week. And surprisingly it wasn't in a vintage store, but in Mango outlet. And just for 11 euros!!! It was great, I didn't expect to find such a thing in that store.

Because it looks sooooo vintage, don't you think? I love pleated dresses, and this one looks great combined with the right complements.

I've stayed at home this morning, being a bit lazy and also trying to tidy my wardrobe a little bit. I was also looking for inspiration for a post...and I found it.
I saw all the jackets I own and thought that I've been wearing some of them quite a lot lately because the summer is not being as soffocating as I thought it would be.
I like jackets quite a lot...especially wearing them unbuttoned.

Have you ever looked back in your old wardrobe, during a visit to the family? Maybe you've been as lucky as I was, finding these two cute items lost somewhere there...I don't even remember wearing them, maybe they weren't even mine...but now that I've found them I'm so hapy and they are so pretty that I'm enjoying them as much as they deserve.
The bag is made of leather, and it's so small that I can only fit in it a couple of things. It looks lovely! So oldie, and so cute.
The scarf is made of a really fresh material, perfect for the summer. I love wearing it as a hairband.
Next time I'll explore the old wardrobes again...I'm sure they are full of precious treasures!

Of course...more shoes. Because I'm addicted to them, as many many girls all over the world. Why do shoes have such a magnetism on us?
These nice sandals were half price...How could I not buy them?
They look great with and without stockings, and they are very comfortable despite the high heel...I love heels, but some are hard to wear....which doesn't mean I don't wear them.

Back at home...And to my own laptop. It's not easy to be far from it...now I'm happy to be able to post as I like to again.

During my mini holidays I did/saw some interesting and nice things. One of my great discoveries was a little cute vintage store with a not very nice owner. She got angry because I wanted to take photos and asked me why they were for, because she just allowed to take pictures if they where for stylists for TV or films or theater...So bizarre, don't you think? Anyways, I didn't want to tell her that they were for my blog, because I'm sure that she would like to know the blog address and she was so unkind that I wasn't sure if I wanted her to enter this mini world I have here...I just didn't want to. So I just told her that the pictures were for me, because I loved vintage clothes and I loved many of the stuff around there and I just wanted to have them for myself. She thinked about it for a minute and then said...ok. But I wanted to go, so I just decided to take a pic of my favourite thing in the store, which is this wonderful, beautiful outfit...

The coat was unbelievable, with its pattern of little ribbons, and the dress was made of silk, and so 20's...of course it was all very expensive and I didn't want to be broke for the rest of the month, but I still dream of these two cute pieces...

I'm out on some mini holidays...will be back soon. I couldn't take my laptop with me so it's not easy to post as I would like to, with pictures etc...
Anyways, I'm having a great time, despite the unbelievable heat, which makes it hard to decide about outfits...I just want to wear light white dresses, eat many fruit sorbets and ice tea with mint and that's all.
These days I've been playing Scrabble in sunny terraces, drinking raspberry milkshakes and café frappé while walking by busy streets, sleeping on the grass under the shadow of centenary trees...
I've also been searching for new retro nice clothes at some cool vintage stores and bought some pretty little things. Will show them soon, especially a really nice 70s jacket (with strass buttons!) that makes me doubt about the right ways to combine it. I hope you can help me!

The more I look at them, the more I like them...

I bought them today, just for 14 euros. Amazing! I have to admit that the price convinced me to buy them, because I wasn't sure at all...I liked the three straps and the colour, but wasn't convinced about the shape. For me these are the ideal three strap shoes...

And also...

But unfortunately they're impossible to find anywhere now. If you have a clue about those please tell me, I don't mind they are from the 2007 collection...I think they are one of those eternal pieces of art to keep forever...I just love Chloé so much.
Until then, I'm very happy with this unexpected pair of shoes...so girly-style, with a hint of Lolita intention. Perfect with dresses and also with light grey slim jeans, as I tried them on today.

Isn't it so cute? I got it for my birthday, a few days ago, and totally loved it. It matches so great with black (a nice way to break the "total black" look), grey, cream and white...It's so soft and beautiful. I'll take some pictures of myself wearing it and I'll show them here sometime...It's also available in black and ivory, but this powder pink one is my favourite...My hair is really dark so the black one didn't make contrast at all and the ivory one was, on the other hand, too much contrast...anyways, I'm thinking of buying the black one too, just for "discrete" days. I've worn it as a classic hairband, but it also looks great in a 1920s style.

I wrote a little joke about H&M on my previous post, and I instantly remembered one of the great news of the year...especially for those who can't spent as much as we wanted on fashion...



I've always admired Japanese designers...I've always liked them, although sometimes they are so "experimetal" that I see their creations more as walking sculpture impossible to wear (but great to collect) or a performance.
I love Yamamoto's homeless style, perfect for a clocharde like me. I admire the savoir faire and elegance of Hanae Mori, the most French of the Japanese designers (and she's also very special for me for other reasons...I'll write about that in a Special perfumes forever post). Kenzo's colors and exotic creations...Issey Miyake's fun and so well structured, as he was an architect, designs.

And her...I was so surprised when I read that Rei Kawakubo was going to create a collection for H&M...for me, she's always been a bit like an "outsider" in the fashion industry...it's quite known the fact that she barely uses scissors or needles. She just gives ideas, in a very abstract way, to a very well trained team that works with her to create those original, diferent and fantastic creations of Comme des Garçons. She also lives permanently in Tokio, and goes to Paris for no more than a week...and I think she has an idea of fashion that is quite far from the concept of "industry" and "business". That's why I guess this is gonna be very strange for her too, but also a challenge.
On the other hand, I think everybody is going to be very happy to see her pieces of art hanged ina  store where we all can buy. Anyways, we'll have to wait to see the collection...in my opinion, some of the other "designer's for H&M" have been a bit dissapointing. Also, I admire Comme des Garçons as a work of art, but the style of this brand doesn't fix exactly with my own style now...not always, but generally.
The mistery will be solved sometime in November, just a few days after the collection's launching in Japan, the first place where it will be available.

His name is Jean...James Jean

Maybe not many people recognize this guy in a "zen scenary"...but by the name of the post I know you know who he is...

He is James Jean, the (VERY) talented L.A. based illustrator who created all those wonderful wallpapers and patters for the last Prada collection.

He might be American-Taiwanese, living in the cosmopolitan L.A. and designing for one of the most important Italian brands...but I know where he really lives...in Fairyland!

Awesome Prada ads...they still look so Prada (the colours, the poses, the make up...) but with Jean's magic touch...which is great because, to be honest, Prada's graphic ads were starting to bore me a little bit...

Lost in translation, one of my favourite films.
I think it expresses so well the feeling of solitude, in a very feminine way.
I saw it at an empty cinema years ago, in a very strange an lonely day for me. And this film was the best thing that could happen to me in such a bad day.

The reason why I'm writing about Lost in translation is not only because I'm a fan of the film, but also a fan of the beautiful umbrella that Scarlett carries when she walks alone in Tokio.
I don't like umbrellas. I hate them.

But there's an exception. The Tokio umbrella, as I like to referr to it.

It's perfect, it's transparent, it's cute, it's Japanese...

I want one! But I can't find them here. Maybe when I go to Japan, sometime...

Beautiful wallpapers

I love wallpapers. I especially like those "old style" ones, with beautiful patterns that you would imagine covering the walls of an English cottage or maybe a Parisian attic.
Sadly, I don't have wallpapers in my appartment. They are not very common where I live, and the appartment is rented, so I can't do what I want to decorate it.
So the only place where I can have a nice, floral, old fashioned wallpaper is...my laptop! I never thought of it, but when I saw the awesome downloadable wallpapers in the Paul&Joe website I thought: my dream came true! I can have the most adorable wallpapers! And with Paul&Joe patterns...so nice!

Olivier Theyskens, the little great dark prince.
He is a genius! The Belgian designer of Nina Ricci started to work profesionally in the fashion world at the young age of nineteen.
He was the last designer of Rochas, before the fashion section of the brand was sadly eliminated.
I loved his work in Rochas, but I love even more his designs for Nina Ricci. You can notice how he loves delicate shapes, how he gets inspiration from anywhere, even a bottle of parfum and why he is a master of color...I've never liked yellow before Olivier in Nina Ricci.
I love his "dark fairytale style". I love that mistery around him.
